Ilkari is the campus environment group, established in 1990 with the broad aim of conserving and restoring the natural environment. We employ the "think globally, act locally" principle, and invite any interested person to attend meetings and join our activities. We aim to bring together people of many different kinds to work on environmental projects: students, academic and general staff, local community groups and expert professionals from diverse sources. Our projects are carried out using a combination of formal student research projects, volunteer efforts and input from the Union, Student's Association, Clubs & Societies and the Administration. We take on a variety of projects, reflecting the interests of members, and aim to achieve tangible results in a reasonable time.
If you’re energetic, enthusiastic, and can spare half an hour or more to be ACTIVELY involved in preserving and restoring your local natural environment, then we need you. You can join up at any time (only $3 for students!). You can offer your services as an advisor if you have a particular expertise or specialised skills. Come along to the meetings, we’d like to hear your ideas. Do your bit for the environment and join in with the activities. Details of activities are updated on this site weekly and posted on the Conservation Center notice board and emailed to all members.
We meet on alternate Tuesdays at 12 Noon in the Alex Bondar room (Undercroft of the Union Building - 2 levels below the Coopers Bar) and at various additional times. Other activities, such as planting, watering are held weekly during term time.
